About Quick Jungle
How Quick Jungle Started
Helen Tetlow opened Quick Jungle in March 2019 in a unit on Farrow Road that used to be a tyre fitting bay. The floor was concrete, the ceiling was corrugated steel, and the first piece of equipment was a set of second-hand plyometric boxes she drove three hours to collect. The first six members trained on a Tuesday evening in October 2018, before the lease was even signed, in the car park outside. That session ran for 55 minutes in the rain and everyone came back the following week.
The gym grew slowly and deliberately. Helen turned down a franchise offer in early 2022 because the model required a minimum of 200 members and a standardised class timetable. Quick Jungle has never had more than 140 active members at one time, and the timetable changes every quarter based on what members actually ask for. The rubber flooring went in during the summer of 2020. The rig was built by a local fabricator in 2021. The kids class started in January 2023 after three parents asked for it on the same day.
Helen Tetlow spent eight years coaching athletics at a regional club before she got tired of watching people train in car parks because the local gym wouldn't let them in without a membership contract. She opened Quick Jungle in 2019 with second-hand plyometric boxes and a borrowed squat rack. She turned down a franchise offer in 2022 because it came with a script. She coaches most of the early-morning sessions herself and still runs a 5k on Fridays before anyone else arrives. Her rule: if a session isn't fun, it isn't working.
